La Pine is in an isolated region of Central Oregon, consisting of a loose compilation of homes and businesses along U.S.

La Pine is in the valley of the Little Deschutes River, a tributary of the Deschutes River.

The town/city is situated in 7 square miles (18 km2), and at the time of incorporation, had 1,585 inhabitants as of December 2006. Much of the former census-designated region lies outside the town/city limits. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 6.98 square miles (18.08 km2), all of it land. As of the census of 2010, there were 1,653 citizens , 698 homeholds, and 412 families residing in the city.

There were 698 homeholds of which 28.5% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 42.6% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female homeholder with no husband present, 4.9% had a male homeholder with no wife present, and 41.0% were non-families.

22.4% of inhabitants were under the age of 18; 6.8% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.7% were from 25 to 44; 30.4% were from 45 to 64; and 17.8% were 65 years of age or older.

There were 2,331 homeholds out of which 26.6% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 27.1% were non-families.

In the CDP, the populace was spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who were 65 years of age or older.

About 9.5% of families and 13.2% of the populace were below the poverty line, including 13.4% of those under age 18 and 11.5% of those age 65 or over.
